Norma Shiheiber

Norma Shiheiber

Norma Shiheiber was the first born in the United States to a Palestinian family who was forced out of Jaffa, Palestine in 1948. Her family's history of exile, displacement and oppression has shaped her as a human being and strikes at the core of her passions. She studied journalism and had a dream to create films that will document the struggles and aspirations of Palestinians as a very small counter to the Zionist propaganda machine. Life happened, and although she was active as a youth and later as a college student at SFSU in the early eighties, for the last 20 years she has been focused on raising children on her own and earning a living in the real estate business in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The time has come now to pursue her unfulfilled dream, documentary filmmaking. Ironically, it took her back to SFSU, where her neice Jacqueline Husary, was spear-heading an initiative to have a Palestinian mural displayed on the campus of Shiheiber's alma mater. "A Palestinian Mural" is her first expression of her life-long dream to become a filmmaker.
