El-Funoun Dabke Workshop

  • Casa de Cultura 2057 West 18th Street Chicago, Illinois (map)

We are partnering with Latinxs for Palestine to host the world renowned El-Funoun Palestinian Dance Troupe!

Young male dancers from the troupe energetically perform.

Members of El-Funoun Dance Troupe, the premier Palestinian dance group will be visiting from Palestine to offer a special dabke workshop to teach the traditional Palestinian dance while raising urgent funds needed for El-Funoun to continue their 45 year legacy.

Dabke is the traditional Palestinian dance form in which El-Funoun’s innovative dance style is rooted. The dancers will discuss the history of El-Funoun as a vital Palestinian cultural institution and the challenges the Troupe, and its members, face in carrying cultural production and performance in the face of a military occupation whose purpose is to silence, suppress and erase Palestinian society and culture.

After the presentation, audience members will be invited to learn dabke steps, participate in a traditional dabke circle, and meet with the dancers.

Refreshments will be served.
